The Tao project consists of a single permit located 240 km northeast of Ouagadougou in the northeast corner of the country. It lies within the same Birimian greenstone belt as the Essakane gold deposits, currently undergoing a feasibility study by Goldfields and Orezone. The indicated gold resource at Essakane stands at 1.9 Moz with a further 1.5 Moz in the inferred category. Previous operators on the Tao property outlined several kilometre long gold-in-soils geochemical anomalies, and RAB (Rotary Air Blast) drilling by the company has extended these zones.
The Tao project covers 189 square km. Previous operators drilled at least 10 RC drill holes on one gold-in-soils anomaly. Seven of the holes returned gold grades ranging from 0.95 to 4.98 g/t over 1.5 to 13.5 m, including intersections of 4.0 g/t over 9 m and 1.57 g/t over 13.5 m. Riverstone has undertaken reconnaissance mapping and sampling, plus 4,300 m of RAB drilling since June of 2006. The RAB drilling was performed along strike from the RC intercepts, and also tested a separate gold-in-soils anomaly. Highlights from the RAB drilling include: 1.04 g/t over 9 m, 2.42 g/t over 3 m, 1.08 g/t over 6 m, 1.04 g/t over 3 m and 1.42 g/t over 6 m.
